Leaving the House with Kids

As a parent, I am sure you are familiar with general rule of thumb that you add time when leaving the house if you have kids, but what nobody ever told us was how much time.  Worry no more, I have figured it out.

Here is the mathematical formula...

((A¹ * .5) + (10-S) + (F*1.5)) + ((A² * .5) + (10-S) + (F*1.5)) + ((A³ * .5) + (10-S) + (F*1.5)) = minutes

Let's break this down...

This formula works for up to three kids.  If you have more than 3 kids, you need a lot more help than a simple formula.  The equation can be broken into 3 parts - 1 for each kid.  The first part:

((A¹ * .5) + (10-S) + (F*1.5))

A¹ = the age of your first kid

S = hours of sleep he/she got the night before

F = number of friends he/she has/had over right before you are leaving

Example:

Annabelle is 10 years old.  She stayed up later than usual so only got about 8 hours sleep the night before.  She had 1 friend over before we left.  Trebor is 8.  He got a full night sleep.  He had no friends over.  It took us 12 1/2 to leave from the first "Come On! Let's Go!".  We would have known this and prepared if we did the math:

((10 * .5) + (10-8) + (1*1.5)) + ((8 * .5) + (10-10) + (0*1.5)) = 8.5 + 4 = 12.5 minutes

I must admit, this formula is not perfect.  For example, in the interest of simplicity, I did not take into consideration calories from sugar, Mario Kart scores, or hours since last went to the bathroom.
